Water Supply

The Water Source of Supply Department operates the raw water delivery system, which supplies water for Sweetwater and its contract customers.

Lake level information is available for:

Water facilities consist of three City-owned lakes, seven raw water pump stations, and associated collection lines.

The Sweetwater Water Source of Supply Department responsibilities include:

Watershed patrol
Operation of two treated water pump stations, standpipes, and elevated storage tank
Telemetry control and monitoring systems
Maintenance of 34 municipal water wells, 14 irrigation wells, approximately 3,000 acres of City-owned well field property and 1,300 acres leased property
Septic tank inspections

Enforcement of City Codes at all three lakes

Purification Plant

The Purification Department operates the Water Treatment Plant, which receives raw water from the City's three reservoirs and water well field.

Purification responsibilities include:

Operating and preventive maintenance of the water plant
Daily laboratory testing of plant process efficiency
Continual bacteriological and chemical sampling of the distribution system
Meeting requirements of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality(TCEQ)

Plant operators are certified and licensed by the TCEQ. The operators control the plant outside normal business hours through laptops that have remote SCADA capabilities.

Wastewater Collection & Treatment

The Wastewater Collection Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Collection System. The Department has three full-time employees.

Responsibilities of the Wastewater Collection Department include making new sewer taps, installing sewer lines, cleaning collection lines, and repairing or replacing damaged mains, manholes, and service connections.

The Wastewater Treatment Department is responsible for the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, which treats the wastewater from the Sweetwater Collection System.

Treated effluent is discharged to Sweetwater Creek and can be utilized for irrigation at a nearby City-owned farm.

The plant operates eight hours per day, five days per week, and has operators on duty after 5:00 pm and on weekends. Operators have control of the plant through laptops that have remote SCADA system capabilities. All operators are certified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Operators are responsible for maintaining the irrigation Pivot System and repairs to the irrigation piping from the plant to the farm, which keeps effluent contained according to TCEQ Rules and Regulations.

Operators are also responsible for proper operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and extensive lab analysis to meet State-mandated regulations.

Water Distribution

The Wastewater Distribution Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Water Distribution System. This includes all piping, valves, fittings, fire hydrants, water metering equipment, distribution pump stations, and storage facilities.

A minimum of two people are on-call for emergency response to system and customer problems at all times. The customer service and meter reading sections are also part of this department.
