The City of Sweetwater participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Credit Rating System (CRS) as set forth by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). General information on flood hazard prevention can be found in the City of Sweetwater Code of Ordinances, Chapter 11, and from FEMA.

Flood Insurance Rate Map
The NFIP has developed a Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the City of Sweetwater which designates special flood hazard areas for the City. The FIRM can be reviewed at the City Hall Code Enforcement Office at 200 East 4th St.

Premium Discounts
Participation in the CRS program enables a premium discount for residents who are required to purchase flood insurance. The level of the premium discount is related to the level of regulation and maintenance of the special flood hazard areas by the City.

Special Flood Hazard Areas Elevation
Any development within the special flood hazard areas of the City requires that the elevation of the lowest finish floor be at or above the base flood elevation and documented on a FEMA-approved certification level.
