General Requirements

  • No experience necessary
  • Must be 18 to 35 years of cage
  • Must have a satisfactory background and driving record
  • Must be able to read and write the English language
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the most recent standard of NFPA 1582: Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments
  • Must be able to complete and/or be eligible for firefighter certification by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection within one-year of appointment
  • Must be able to complete and/or be eligible for certification as an EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-P, or LP by the Texas Department of State Health Services; at a minimum EMT-B must be within the first year
  • Preference may be given to successful applicants who currently possess certifications issued by TCFP or DSHS

Hiring Process

  • All applicants must successfully complete an entry-level exam; successful completion is a minimum score of 70
  • When there is a position vacancy, applicants who have successfully completed the entrance exam will be selected to successfully complete a physical agility test
  • Applicants who successfully complete physical agility test will be extended an offer to interview for an open vacancy
  • Preference may be given to those who hold current or pending certification as required by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection
  • Preference may be given to those who hold a minimum Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, - Advance, or -Paramedic certifications

Veterans

  • A veteran applicant must be honorably discharged from the Armed Services and must provide a DD Form-214 as evidence
