The Department's drop-off center provides for area residents and businesses to inexpensively place their waste for transit to a certified disposal site. It also allows the public to recycle metal, glass, cardboard, paper, tires, used motor oil and filters, and brush and yard waste at no cost.

Contact Refuse Disposal and Recycling at (325) 235-5003 or (325) 236-8169. The Drop-Off Center is located at 807 West Broadway and is opened from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday and from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Waste Reduction

The center's availability reduces the potential for illegal dumping and supports the 40% waste reduction goal set by Texas Legislation of 1991. The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have set operational requirements in their rules and regulations.

Other Responsibilities

The Department is also responsible for the routine maintenance of the City Type IV portion of the landfill which operates under State Permit 50B. The Type IV East landfill is located at West I-20 Frontage Road. 

Contractors or those who do not have a City of Sweetwater water account  must pay $10 per cubic yard to utilize the City of Sweetwater Landfill

LANDFILL HOURS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 2022:

Monday thru Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The landfill will be closed on Sundays.

Routine maintenance includes the repair of erosion and sink holes and the growth of vegetation.
