General Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be physically fit for police work
• Have a satisfactory background and driving record
• Be able to read and write the english language
• Possess a high school diploma or GED

Age Requirements

Police officer applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old to be eligible for a beginning position in the Police Department. Those who are between the ages of 36 and 45 years may not be certified as eligible for a beginning position unless he or she has at least five years experience as a peace officer or at least five years of military experience.

Peace Officers

Applicants with experience as a peace officer preferably will possess certification as a peace officer as established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. The applicant shall provide evidence of certification on or before the date of the entrance examination.

Veterans

A veteran applicant must be honorably discharged from the Armed Services and must provide a DD Form-214 as evidence.
